History of Culture in the Age of Digital Humanities

During the studies in the field of Cultural History in the Age of Digital Humanities students gain broad substantive knowledge and basic skills to conduct an interdisciplinary research. The study program includes, among others:

  • diploma seminars
  • professional internships
  • subjects from the Methodological Module “Theories, methods and research traditions”, referring to the theory, research methodology and research traditions of four disciplines assigned to the field of study (art sciences, history, culture and religion sciences, archaeology); particular emphasis will be placed on the impact of digital tools on contemporary practices in conducting scientific researchsubjects from the Specialization Module “Cultural History – interpretations and inspirations”, i.e. classes referring to the issues of the history of culture, its interpretation and influence (inspirations); the aim of the classes is to deepen knowledge in selected areas of cultural history to the extent that allows for interdisciplinary research
  • subjects from the Practical Module “Digital tools and contemporary humanities”, which will include, among others, introductory classes to programming in Python 3, fundamental data structures and an introduction to the paradigm of object-oriented programming; a group of classes will also include practical issues related to the knowledge of the most common digital tools, using them and skills necessary for creating or tailoring specialized digital tools for archiving and digitizing sources, databases of material and immaterial sources and various ways of using them in research (interpretative and implementation work); classes will enable the acquisition of practical skills in the field of text processing and creating network resources, using three-dimensional models, visualization and animation in research practice.
